A day after the parent company of the Chicago Tribune tipped into bankruptcy, the paper found itself in the middle of one of the biggest hometown political stories in decades.

The Chicago Tribune broke news of the arrest of Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich on federal corruption charges. The governor and his chief of staff are accused of trying to reap financial gain from his authority to appoint a candidate to the U.S. Senate seat vacated by President-elect Barack Obama, among other allegations."
